Primary 1: Course Introduction


Term 1: Computer Basics & Cool Creations

Computer Clubhouse: Learn the names of all the important parts of a computer!
Word Wizards: Become a typing star and learn to make neat documents.
Typing Time: Practice placing your fingers on the keyboard the right way.

  • Introduction to Computer Room: Students get acquainted with each other, learn class rules for safety and organization, and practice using computers effectively.
  • Introduction to Computers (Basic Parts): Students learn about proper posture while using computers, identify main computer parts like monitor, keyboard, mouse, CPU, and basic ports and buttons.
  • Introduction to Computers (Hardware and Software): Students recall computer parts, understand hardware and software components, explore desktop views, and create folders in file explorer.
  • Introduction to MS Word Part 1 (Basic Parts): Students define MS Word, identify basic tools like menu bar, ribbon, and practice using them.
  • Introduction to MS Word Part 2 (Writing and Saving a Document): Students open MS Word, type names, practice zooming, and saving documents in folders.
  • MS Word Text Formatting Parts 1-3: Students learn text formatting tools like changing color, size, style, alignment, bullet points, and shortcuts in MS Word.
  • MS Word Practical Application: Students apply all formatting tools and techniques in an actual application, following instructions to create and format documents.
  • Formative Assessment: Assessment 1 to evaluate understanding and application of concepts covered in Term 1.



                  Term 2:  Digital Artists & Code Explorers

                  Picture Perfect: Draw and color amazing things with MS Paint!
                  Code Quest: Learn to give computers instructions in order, like a super-secret puzzle.
                  Email Explorers: Discover how to send messages to friends and teachers on Gmail.

                  • Introduction to MS Paint: Familiarizing students with the MS Paint environment, basic tools like brush, color, and shape, and creating simple outputs.
                  • MS Paint Brush and Colors: Understanding different brushes, applying appropriate colors to drawings, and creating outputs.
                  • MS Paint Shapes, Eraser Tool, Fill Color: Using different shapes, fill color tool, and eraser tool to create creative outputs.
                  • MS Paint Completion of Tasks: Completing MS Paint activities and helping each other accomplish tasks.
                  • Digital Citizenship: Pause and Think Online: Emphasizing online safety, responsible behavior, and respecting others online. Learning the "Pause & Think Online" song and drawing digital citizens they aspire to be.
                  • Gmail Navigation: Learning to use Gmail, understanding good and bad choices in using Gmail, exploring basic menus, checking sent and draft emails, writing and sending emails, and logging out from Gmail.
                  • Sending an Email (Continuation): Continuing to explore Gmail features, writing and sending emails, and logging out from Gmail.
                  • Sending Email with Attachment: Composing emails with attachments, sending attachments in Gmail, identifying the attach button, and understanding the advantages of sending attachments.
                  • Coding Sequencing: Engaging in coding activities with Angry Birds, Maze, Laurel, and creating art with code to understand sequences, algorithms, and repetitive control.
                  • Review: Recalling topics discussed in the term, re-discussing if needed, and preparing review materials for assessment.


                  Term 3: Web Surfers & Super Coders

                  Internet Explorers: Learn to search for cool stuff on the internet safely.
                  Firefly Fun: Find your homework and messages on our special school website.
                  Code Challenge: Keep practicing those computer instructions!

                  • Digital Citizenship: Internet Traffic Light: Understanding online safety, identifying appropriate websites and apps, knowing how to seek help from adults when unsure about a website.
                  • Introduction to the Internet: Defining the internet, explaining how it works, and drawing a representation of the internet.
                  • Introduction to Firefly: Logging in to Firefly, familiarizing with dashboard features, accessing resources and tasks, and marking tasks as done.
                  • Firefly Downloading and Sending File: Logging in to Firefly, opening assigned tasks, downloading attached files, uploading files, and marking tasks as done.
                  • Fables: The Moral of the Story is... Coding (Continuation): Harvesting Crops with Loops: Using sequential and looped commands to move and perform actions, identifying when loops can simplify repetitive actions, and writing programs with loops.
                  • Coding Mini-Project: Sticker Art: Differentiating commands for loops and standalone use, understanding the benefits of loop structures, and solving the Sticker Art mini-project.
                  • Review: Recalling topics discussed in the term, re-discussing if needed, and preparing review materials for assessment.
                  • Formative Assessment: Assessment 2 to evaluate understanding and application of concepts covered in Term 3.
                  • Coding: Build a Flappy Game: Creating a Flappy Bird game, using event code for game functionality, and following instructions accurately to complete the activity.

                  Important: Throughout the year, you'll have fun activities and ways to show how much you're learning about computers!
